I would never have picked up such a seemingly simple book on a regular basis, but while helping a friend research a project on felines, I came across "Why the Cat Chose Us". First intrigued by the title, I opened the book and, to my surprise, found easy (but not patronizingly so) quick reading, spectacular photos and drawings, and tidbits of minutiae that helped hold my interest throughout the scant pages (although the book didn't necessarily need that help.
"Why the Cat Chose Us" seemed more to me like a history of cats, moving fluidly from the cat's life in the wild, throughout the ancient and medieval times, and right through to modern days, explaining about feline behaviors and habits along the way. Although the interest level was grades 4 to 6, I am in ninth grade and pored over the book, and immediately searched down it's companion ("How the Wolf Became the Dog" by the same author.
